Once you stop dieting you tend to gain back your weight, because your calorie consumption goes back up – plus, you now have a slower metabolism and need fewer calories. The best way to avoid this slow down in your metabolism is through only losing one to two pounds per week. This will increase your ability to keep off the weight once you are off the diet. It is all about eating the right foods, so you can lose weight, but eat MORE.
Of the many ways to speed up metabolism, it’s not just about the foods you eat. Exercise can do it, too. When you exercise your body requires more energy, so your metabolism is set in motion to turn calories into energy and not fat. You build and tone muscles which require energy all the time, even when they are not in use, so you get a super charged metabolism that is constantly burning calories.
You do not need to exercise constantly for the rest of your life, though. Once you build up and tone your muscles, your metabolism is raised. At some point your muscles will do the work of keeping your metabolism soaring, so all you will need to do is a few basic maintenance workouts each week to maintain your weight loss.
Most diets are not effective. They count on that first few pounds everyone loses in the initial days. That makes everyone excited so they spread the word to all their friends. The diet company makes a fortune overnight then disappears. Why? Unfortunately, the weight you lost is usually just water loss that will come back immediately. But, by then the damage is done, you’ve slowed your metabolism and as soon as you start eating again, you gain it all back plus – on average – an additional 10 pounds.
Losing weight starts with ways to speed up metabolism. You have to speed it up through eating the right, healthy foods – and exercising. You want to lose weight without starving yourself. Starving yourself just leads to a slow metabolism and eventual failure.
