Muscle Abs – Routines To Develop And Tighten Muscles
October 20, 2010 weight loss No CommentsHaving a muscular stomach is synonymous with feeling good about yourself in many cases. While it’s a good idea not to go overboard, having a little weight around the stomach area is a common effect of today’s society. One where fast foods and no exercise are simply making entire countries ‘go fat’. Fortunately, it’s not too much work to simply reverse this weight gain. Renovating your diet is a good start and can even aid in the weight loss without the need for exercise. However, exercise will not only build up muscles and give you a healthier body, but also leave you feeling better about yourself and fill you with more energy. Here are some exercises to help build up the muscle abs.
Bicycle Crunch
Ideally, you should have an exercise mat or some soft layer beneath you to prevent injury while performing this exercise. Start by lying flat on the floor with your lower back pressed against the ground. Place both your hands on the back of your head, in the typical relaxing style. Now bring your knees up to around a forty-five degree angle, then pretend to pedal, as though you were on a bike. To make this more effective, touch your elbow to the opposing knee, ie, left elbow to right knee. Be sure to breathe evenly throughout.
Doing The Abdominal Crunch
If you have an exercise ball, this is a brilliant exercise. If not, continue on for an exercise that doesn’t require a ball. Begin by sitting down onto the exercise ball and place your feet flat on the ground. Roll the ball up your back until you’re parallel with the ground. Tense your abs and bring yourself up to around forty-five degrees. Then lower yourself down until you’re flat again. To make the position less stable, consider reducing the distance between your feet to build up your oblique muscles.
Doing The Vertical Leg Crunch
All you need is a soft surface, like an exercise mat. Lie down on the ground and place your hands on the back of your head. Lift your legs up into the air and keep your knees slightly bent. Tense your stomach muscles until your shoulders leave the ground. Avoid pulling on your neck during this exercise. Now pull your upper body towards your knees, then return.
Diet
Bad habits are usually the sources of weight gain. Fat can be difficult to burn off with just exercise if your diet isn’t taking part as well. Try to reduce fatty and sugary foods and lower the number of snacks you’re having a day. Foods with saturated fats should be avoided as this is tougher to burn off than unsaturated fats. Fibrous foods are a must, as is protein if you wish to build up the muscle and not just tone it.
